Since 2020, the Stadtmuseum Berlin’s project “Berlin jetzt!” (Berlin Now!), has collected photographic perspectives on contemporary Berlin through public calls for submissions.
In 2024, selected works were shown for the first time in analog form in the exhibition “Berlin im Blick” (Berlin in Focus) at the Ephraim-Palais, curated by five contributing photographers.
The following year, these curators explored the museum’s historical photo archive of over three million images, asking which related to seven themes they saw as central to Berlin today: architecture, nature, people, movement, activism, rhythm, and transformation.
The resulting image pairs place current photographs in dialogue with the past. They reveal both shifts in the city and in photographic perspectives, while also exposing blind spots in the collection—such as limited attention to urban nature, migration, civic engagement, and resistance.
